Nature itself is the best medicine
Herbalism is the practice and study of using plants for medicinal purposes. The earliest archeological records of using plants as medicine dates back over 60,000 years. Written evidence of herbal remedies was found in ancient Sumeria, dating to over 5,000 years ago.
Herbalism has been an integral part of every culture on earth and is widely used to this day. Although plant medicine has been replaced by pharmacology in the western world, it is making resurgence due to the often debilitating side effects of chemically based drugs. Often referred to as “complimentary medicine,” herbal remedies are now being prescribed to treat all manner of ailments. Many modern drugs are derivatives of plants. Unlike drugs, plant based medicinals are recognized by the human body and rarely have side effects.
Humans and plants have shared a unique relationship since the beginning of time. Our ancestors revered medicinal plants and the healers who used them. Herbalism is known as “the people’s medicine” because it is available to all. You don't need a degree or special license to use plant medicine. Most herbalists have learned their craft through apprenticeships with other healers or through self-study. Trial and error is often a part of the process. Plant medicine is powerful and potent, and caution should be exercised when using plants that have strong medicinal properties. If you have any questions or concerns, consult with a practitioner.
